Gurnee, IL, USA (August 22, 2013) — Six Flags Great America announced today that guests will be able to experience the iconic American Eagle roller coaster riding backward beginning Labor Day Weekend, August 31. Labor Day Weekend also marks the last chance to ride the wooden roller coaster, Viper backward.

American Eagle has been providing thrills for over 30 years and has held the title of the world’s tallest, fastest and longest racing wooden roller coaster since its introduction in 1981. While this is not the first time that the American Eagle has assumed the backwards position, it’s surely a fan favorite.

“We couldn’t have picked a better ride to round out our season of backward thrills. We offered the American Eagle backwards during the ride’s 30th anniversary and our guests have been begging for another chance to experience it,” said park president, Hank Salemi.
