Astana 2017 will be an International Exposition that will see the participation of 100 countries, of which 48 have already confirmed their attendance, together with two UN agencies: UNESCO and UNIDO. The organizers are expecting 5 million visitors during the three months of Expo 2017, with over 3,000 events planned. The edition in Astana will give space to topics on energy for everyone, the reduction of emissions and energy efficiency. In addition, the project includes four thematic Pavilions, ranging from “energy world” to the “sources for life”. Mussin also explained the main difference between an International and a Universal Exposition like Expo Milano 2015: in addition to the shorter duration and the building space limit, an international edition allows the determining of the use of the Exposition Site after the event. In this case, the space of Kazakhstan will host an international hub for future energy.

Work has already begun in the area where Expo Astana 2017 will take place, together with the various infrastructures that will link the International Exposition to the capital city’s center. The heart of the Exposition Site, that will have a circular plan, will house the Kazakhstan Pavilion represented by the largest glass sphere in the world at 26,000 square meters.
