On June 7, 2018, the Hainan provincial government held a working discussion with Chimelong Group and the two sides conducted an in-depth discussion on the promotion of the Hainan Chimelong International Marine Ecological Tourism Cultural Complex. In attendance were Hainan Governor Shen Xiaoming, Chimelong Group Chairman Su Zhigang, and Mao Chaofeng, Deputy Governor of Shaanxi Province. Also present were representatives of those cities and counties that will be affected by the project.
Shen Xiaoming, representing the provincial party committee, pointed out that during the celebration of Hainan Province’s 30th year as a Provincial Spacial Administrative Region, China’s General Secretary Xi Jinping announced support for Hainan Island to build a free trade pilot zone, developing tourism, modern service, and high-tech industries. Chimelong Group responded to the call of the Central Committee to invest in the free trade zone. According to Shen, the provincial government is making development of the Chimelong Group project in Hainan a priority and he hopes that Chimelong Group will fully combine the advantages of Hainan’s climate conditions, resource conditions and tourist source structure to create a world-class theme park project in Hainan for free trade.
Su Zhigang, chairman of Chimelong Group, stated that his company will invest heavily in building, managing and operating projects with international standards, attracting long-term holiday spending for international and domestic tourists. International tourism will be greatly helped by a new policy instituted on May 1, 2018, allowing tourists from 59 countries to visit Hainan for up to 30 days without a visa.
This will be Chimelong Group’s fourth large scale themed resort, and the first to be built outside Guangdong Province.
