Hickory, NC, USA (March 14, 2012) /BUSINESS WIRE/ — While museum lovers eagerly await the 2013 opening of the Perot Museum of Nature & Science in Dallas, TX, USA, CommScope is working behind the scenes to lay the groundwork for the communications infrastructure supporting the ultra-modern facility.
Already a standout on the city’s skyline, the Perot Museum features an innovative “floating cube” design by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Thom Mayne. The 180,000-square-foot and 170 foot tall building houses 11 state-of-the-art exhibition halls, a digital cinema, six learning labs, an observation deck, outdoor play space and more. The museum also features environmentally-friendly LED lighting, a rainwater collection system, solar-powered hot water heating and a sustainable landscape of trees and plants native to Texas. Application to green-building certification programs, such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is underway.
At the heart of the facility and essential to its day-to-day operations lies a complete CommScope solution powering all of the museum’s wired and wireless communications. CommScope technology will underpin everything – from touch-screen, interactive exhibits to the box office – and provide cellular coverage throughout. In addition, the solution includes infrastructure to support a VoIP phone system, as well as building management and security applications.

Having previously worked with CommScope on the new Dallas Cowboys stadium, where they exceeded expectations, it was an easy choice to bring them in on another high-profile project.”
As part of the museum’s in-building communications solution, CommScope is providing design and project management through its Global Services team. Installation includes 200,000 end-to-end feet of Category 6 cabling and a distributed antenna system for blanketed wireless coverage.

The Perot Museum is named for Margot and Ross Perot as a result of a 2008 gift of $50 million made by the Perot children in honor of their parents. Together with additional donations from area businesses, individuals, private and public foundations, the Museum announced that it met the $185 million fundraising goal in November 2011, making the dream of this ambitious project a reality.
