Luna Park Celebrates 90th Anniversary of Coney Island Cyclone

Luna Park, New York City’s largest amusement park, will host the biggest block party of the year to celebrate the Cyclone’s 90th Birthday on Sunday, June 25 at Luna Park in Coney Island. Grammy-nominated platinum recording artist “Fabolous” will headline the event, and also joining in the celebration are Power 105.1’s Angela Yee and DJ Will.

The Harlem Globetrotters will also headline the event as they have also recently celebrated their 90th Birthday. The Globetrotters will perform twice and following each performance, they will sign autographs and take photos with fans for 30 minutes. The event kicks off at 2:00pm and it will be a free family event with entertainment for all ages.

Few rap artists have been able to sustain as credible and hit-worthy career as Fabolous, whose catalog of certified gems and hit singles (“Make Me Better,” “Into You,” “Breathe”) is almost as long as his list of collaborators, which includes Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Trey Songz, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj. Fabolous will also host a meet and greet with contest winners after his performance. For more information follow visit Luna Park’s Facebook and Twitter.

The event also includes many other activities suitable for both adults and children, including giveaways, photo booths, face painting, giveaways, and a special birthday cake. The celebration will also feature several brand activations from companies such as Pepsi, Coney Island Brewery, and The New York Cosmos.

The Coney Island Cyclone was named a New York City Landmark in 1988, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. The roller coaster has 2,640 feet of track featuring 12 drops and 27 elevation changes, including an 85-foot, 60-degree plunge at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. Luna Park fully refurbished the Cyclone in 2016, returning it to its original glory. The historic coaster has provided rides for almost one million riders from around the world since 1927, among those riders include numerous celebrities, elected officials, and dignitaries. The Cyclone has also been a featured element of movies, television shows, books and other forms of American culture.

“The Cyclone is an integral part of the Luna Park experience, and it is also a piece of New York history,” said Valerio Ferrari, president of Central Amusement International and Zamperla USA. “We look forward to welcoming families, visitors and amusement enthusiasts to celebrate with us as we mark this very special milestone.”

On Monday, June 26 at 11am, local stakeholders and elected officials will gather in front of the Cyclone at Luna Park to host an official speaking program and formal birthday ceremony for The Cyclone, which will include 90-cent Cyclone rides for 90 minutes from 12noon to 1:30pm.
