Woodland Hills, CA, USA /BUSINESS WIRE/ — Great American Group, LLC, a leading provider of asset disposition, valuation and appraisal services, reports that the recent live webcast auction conducted on April 20-21 at COPIA: The American Center for Wine, Food and the Arts was a success that “exceeded expectations.”

“The bidding was brisk, competitive and very fluid throughout the auction,” said Mark Weitz, president of Great American Group’s industrial division. “More than 500 bidders took part in the event, on site and online. There was strong interest in the wines up for sale, and we actually brought in twice as much in sales on the center’s equipment compared to our projections.”

Originally opened as a nonprofit center where visitors could explore, celebrate and share the pleasures and benefits of wine, its relationship to food, and its significance to culture, COPIA was supported by such notables as famed chef Julia Child and vintner Robert Mondavi. COPIA closed its doors in Nov. 2008.

Weitz says more than 4,000 bottles of wine were sold during the auction – with an original pastel painting of Robert Mondavi fetching $9,000. A painting of Julia Child was sold for $3,500, and Weitz notes that Tiffany stemware and dinnerware sold for about $700 per setting.

“Our company was very excited to be chosen to conduct the auction, especially because it offered such an eclectic collection of items,” Weitz said.

Other auction items included interactive museum exhibits, works from the COPIA art gallery, along with antique and vintage food and wine memorabilia.
