Creating unique waterpark experiences

Aquatic Development Group is fresh off the success of their H2OBX project opened this past year (and featured in a recent issue of InPark magazine). They’ve learned some lessons on what makes for a successful waterpark.

  1. People come for the slides, but there needs to be places to hang out. “Water is our core strength,” explains ADG Marketing Manager Jessica Mahoney. Various partners can provide waterslides, but ADG focuses on the experiences surrounding that.
  2. Guests are looking for sharable experiences. ADG’s Twin Tides, recently honored with a Leading Edge award from WWA, allows just that kind of activity. It’s dual entry wave pool allows groups to play in the waves together. For a more adventurous experience the Brass Ring awarded Adventure Lagoon combines an inflatable course, rock climbing and a river crossing into one compact attraction.
  3. Remember the goal of a waterpark is to get people into the water. “We have to constantly think beyond the edge of the pool,” says Mahoney, “and do what we can to entice people into enjoying the attractions.” Their new Tidal River ride, coming to Canobie Lake in 2018, takes the standard lazy river attraction and inserts a large rolling wave every 10 seconds, creating visual appeal from the land, and an adventure in the water.
