Education and Tourism Join Forces in Glenwood Springs

Glenwood Springs, CO, USA (June 21, 2012) /PRWEB/ — Like taking an introductory freshman seminar, visitors and prospective students can now easily learn the essentials of playing, staying and studying in Glenwood Springs in one convenient location. The new Glenwood Springs Visitor Center recently relocated to 802 Grand Avenue in the heart of downtown Glenwood Springs, where it now shares lobby space with Colorado Mountain College’s central administrative offices. Though the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association and the college have been working together for nearly 40 years, their recent partnership gives both entities a new and innovative opportunity to increase their visibility and broaden their marketing reach.

“Our visitors are often pleasantly surprised to find out something about Glenwood Springs they didn’t expect. In addition to being America’s ‘Most Fun Town,’ thanks to our many attractions and amenities, we’re home to Colorado Mountain College, a diverse college with many renowned programs,” said Marianne Virgili, president and CEO of the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association.

Similarly, Dr. Stan Jensen, president of Colorado Mountain College, sees the benefits of partnering with the town’s tourism promotion entity. “The third most common way that prospective students find out about our college is through visiting the area on vacation,” Jensen said. “This partnership lets us share resources to stretch our budgets even further, and the innovative visitor center reminds visitors they can stay here and attend a quality, affordable college, too.”

The Glenwood Springs Visitor Center features customer service and cutting-edge technology in a fresh, modern, friendly setting. Three 15-minute parking spaces out front provide convenient access; extensive parking is currently being constructed in the block behind. Upon entering the building, a visitor services specialist greets guests and can answer questions about Glenwood Springs and Colorado Mountain College.

Computers and iPads make it easy for visitors to search for information on area activities, dining and events, as well as to make lodging reservations. Overhead, two large video display screens play continuously, one featuring Glenwood Springs’ attractions and activities, the other showing options for study at the college’s 11 learning locations in Colorado’s mountain and resort towns. A built-in Google Maps screen at the reception desk enables visitors to access and share maps on their mobile devices; and offering historical context, the Glenwood Springs history wall, created by the Frontier Historical Society, highlights the town’s early years through a historical timeline and a short video. Wall kiosks provide traditional printed materials about Glenwood Springs and Colorado Mountain College. The Visitor Center is open daily, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, and 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday from Memorial through Labor Day.

In addition to all the technology, colorful displays designed and manufactured by PG Exhibits in Aurora, Colorado, show visitors why Glenwood Springs continues to be a top destination for travel and education. The three-dimensional displays feature some of the town’s top activities, including swimming at the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool, playing at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, cycling in Glenwood Canyon and skiing at Sunlight Mountain Resort.

Coming soon to the Glenwood Springs Visitor Center, the Colorado Mountain College ArtShare Gallery will open to the public in July. This new space will exhibit the work of visual artists, photographers and students. The gallery space will eventually open onto a pedestrian plaza where the new Garfield County Library is currently under construction. In the meantime, class is in session at the new Glenwood Springs Visitor Center; stop in to learn more about Glenwood Springs and Colorado Mountain College.
