Experience Elvis in Hawai’i and Vegas at New Graceland Exhibits

Memphis, TN, USA /BUSINESS WIRE/ — Throughout 2013, Elvis Presley’s Graceland in Memphis will be honoring the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll with two new exhibits exploring various sides of Presley’s career including films, music, touring and more.

The first exhibit, “Elvis’ Hawaii: Concerts, Movies and More!” will open for the public in January in conjunction with the Elvis 2013 Birthday Celebration on January 8. The exhibit celebrates Elvis’ love for Hawaii and the 40th anniversary of “Aloha from Hawaii.”  This is the first exhibit to explore Elvis’ connection with the islands. The exhibit will allow guests to experience Elvis’ Hawaii and see why it was one of his favorite places to vacation. The exhibit features never-before-seen footage of Elvis on the boat heading to Hawaii in 1957 and color footage of Elvis’ first Hawaiian concert.

The exhibit also brings together, for the first time, all of the jumpsuits Elvis wore during his Hawaiian concerts including both of the American Eagle jumpsuits he wore in January of 1973. Artifacts from the exhibit include items such as the gold lamé jacket he wore in his first Hawaiian concert in 1957, one of the tiki mugs that Col. Parker had made for promotion of “Blue Hawaii,” the crown and pendant given to Elvis during the “Aloha from Hawaii” concert, movie memorabilia from films “Blue Hawaii” and “Paradise, Hawaiian-Style, footage from his “Aloha from Hawaii” television special, rarely-seen photos, and never before seen footage of Elvis’ first Hawaiian concert from the Graceland archives and more.

The second exhibit “Elvis: Live from Vegas” will open on March 1, 2013. The exhibit allows audiences to experience Las Vegas through the eyes of Elvis Presley. The exhibit will feature part of the 30-foot marquee Col. Parker had made to stand outside the New Frontier Hotel in 1957 and the first jumpsuit worn on-stage by Elvis in 1970. Other suits in the exhibit include: Elvis’ Leather and Chains suit, worn in August of 1970 during his Las Vegas engagement and prominently featured in his first concert documentary “Elvis: That’s The Way It Is,” Elvis’ three-piece Spanish Flower suit worn in 1972 that was an alternative to one of the jumpsuits he wore in Las Vegas, Elvis’ I Got Lucky jumpsuit that was worn in 1970 in various cities including Las Vegas, Oakland, Tampa and Los Angeles and can be seen on the cover of the 1971 “I Got Lucky” album, as well as many others. Along with his amazing jumpsuit collection, guests will have the opportunity to view rare artifacts including, hotel receipts, and show memorabilia as well as many other items. From the first time the King of Rock ‘n’ roll stepped foot on-stage in Vegas through his triumphant return in 1969 and beyond, this exhibit captures all of the excitement and energy that is Elvis in Las Vegas.

By popular demand, “Elvis…Through His Daughter’s Eyes” will remain open for another year at Graceland. Presley has been personally involved in the exhibit’s development and planning. New artifacts have been added to this exhibit including the outfit that Lisa Marie Presley wore while performing at the Grand Ole Opry in 2012. The exhibit highlights the relationship between Elvis and his only child, Lisa Marie. Visitors will see numerous items including family photos and home movies that explore her experience of growing up at Graceland and the relationship with her famous father. Artifacts include Presley’s baby foot prints, clothing, childhood tricycle, record player, crib, Gold ID Bracelet given to her by Elvis and much more. This exhibit is featured as part of the Graceland VIP Tour.

Each exhibit will be open for one year. Graceland is open year round with various tour options. For more information on tours, please visit: http://www.elvis.com/graceland/.
