Dubai, UAE — In line with the UAE Youth Empowerment Strategy and the Government’s drive to engage with young people, Expo 2020 Dubai announced the launch of its Apprenticeship Programme which aims to address youth career development in the UAE.

Expo 2020 Dubai’s Apprenticeship Programme seeks to enable unemployed young people to learn directly from industry experts leading the delivery of Expo 2020 Dubai. The program, which will start in August 2016, is nine-months long and includes career development and training, a two-month long academic module, and a job placement for a period of six months with Expo 2020 Dubai, as well as one month for review phases and graduation. During that period Apprentices will engage in skill-building activities, applied business challenges, and panel discussions. They will also benefit from ongoing mentorship, networking opportunities and undertaking an individual capstone project. Holders of higher diploma or university degrees, both UAE nationals and residents, aged under 28 years will have the chance to strengthen their career by contributing to 17 different departments within Expo 2020 Dubai.

Commenting on the launch of the programme, Manal AlBayat, Vice President of Engagement, Expo 2020 Dubai, said; “We at Expo 2020 Dubai are committed to supporting youth as part of our commitment to building a diversified knowledge-based economy. We are confident that the numerous Expo 2020 Dubai initiatives to engage and empower youth – most notably the Apprenticeship Programme – will help establish an enduring legacy for the UAE and the region and will create opportunities for youth to play a pivotal role in our future”

The Apprenticeship Programme fits into Expo 2020 Dubai’s larger aspiration of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future,’ and its subthemes ‘Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability’. The knowledge, ideas and ambitions of young people will be best put to use through these apprenticeships as Dubai prepares to host the World Expo.
