FSY Architects Completes Phase 1 of LA’s Vision Theatre

Los Angeles, CA, USA — FSY Architects is proud to announce the construction completion of Phase 1 of the rehabilitation/adaptive reuse of the Vision Theatre/Manchester Jr. Arts Center in Leimert Park, CA .  The historic Vision Theatre (formerly Leimert Theatre), constructed in 1931-1932 as part of a joint venture development by Walter Leimert and Howard Hughes, is considered “exemplary” as one of the last two great Art Deco theaters remaining in Los Angeles, and has been deemed eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.

Phase 1 work includes the restoration of the building’s iconic facade, marquee, and signage tower; rehabilitation of the entrance foyer and lobby; and the addition/adaptive reuse of the Manchester Jr. Arts Center on the second floor, intended to provide educational arts programs for local youth.  FSY is excited to also announce the very imminent kickoff of the next phase of restoration for this historic gem.  Phase 2 will entail the adaptive reuse of the original 1050-seat cinema auditorium into a 750-seat flexible, state-of-the-art performing arts facility, as well as the historic restoration of this grand audience chamber.  A new stage house  with a full fly loft and support spaces are also planned for this second phase.
