World Wheel Company presents new video flythrough of Giants on the Quayside development

Developer World Wheel Company, which is planning to build Europe’s tallest observation wheel on Newcastle Quayside, has revealed a new computer-generated video tour of the proposed project.

The video is being showcased at the world’s leading property event, MIPIM, continuing through March 15 in Cannes, France. The virtual walkthrough shows the entire Giants on the Quayside development covering 344,445 sq ft (32,000 sq m).

MIPIM is a four-day international property exhibition, conference and networking event attended by 24,000 professionals annually. World Wheel Company is showcasing its plans at the Invest Newcastle stand situated on the Croisette 17, a prominent 76 sq m pavilion on the beachfront.

Beginning on a new Quayside promenade, the video centers around a giant observation wheel dubbed ‘The Whey Aye’ in celebration of its location. The wheel stands nearly 460 ft (140 m) high and will be 16 ft (5 m) taller than the London Eye.

Viewers can also picture a new destination food and beverage experience called The Giant’s Quay; a 39 ft (12 m) tall steel structure named The Geordie Giant; and the interior of the five-story Wheel Terminus building, which will contain up to 9,568 sq yd (8,000 sq m) of commercial space.

It is anticipated that the project will see around £100m invested in the city and up to 800 jobs created.

Phil Lynagh, chief executive officer of World Wheel Company’s Newcastle operation, said: “It’s a real pleasure to reveal our latest representation of the Giants on the Quayside development. We hope that people will be inspired by the sheer scale of our vision and ambition for the development.

“Our plans have been very well received so far and we hope this latest insight into our development will create further interest and support for our proposals. Giants on the Quayside will truly set Newcastle apart as a first-class destination for leisure and entertainment, and help create one of Europe’s leading waterfront experiences.”
