Refurbishment of Europe’s highest wooden coaster begins at Heide Park Resort

In January 2018, Sabrina de Carvalho, Managing Director of Heide Park Resort, announced that the resort’s famed wooden coaster Colossos would close and return for the 2019 season. The resort’s parent company, Merlin Entertainments plc, is investing 12 million euros in the refurbishment of Europe’s fastest and highest wooden roller coaster.

The refurbishment has now begun. The construction site in Heide Park is set up and the wooden rails and ledgers are completely removed. This is a mammoth undertaking for the RCS company from Hamburg, a specialist in the construction and dismantling of roller coasters as well as for Fa. Cordes, a wood-engineering company from Rotenburg, which was also involved in the original construction in 2000. Both companies operate worldwide in the construction of wooden roller coasters. Thorsten Berwald, Project Manager Heide Park Resort stated: “Now we can start. All contractors have set up and we now start the project dismantling. “

A look behind the scenes with regular photo and video updates is now available on the new Colossos blog at www.heide-park.de/colossos. Colossos returns – and promises the season 2019 an even more gigantic adventure.
