Holovis opens five story Innovation Center in Shanghai

Holovis and its shareholding partner KingJoy have launched an Innovation and Demonstration Center in the heart of Shanghai. The new five floor complex will feature applications of Holovis’s emerging technologies and complex immersive environments from their entertainment, enterprise and simulation sectors, as well as offices, innovation labs and house development teams for both companies.

Visitors are greeted in the Lobby by an AI-driven virtual Concierge that uses speech and facial recognition to recognize, welcome the visitor and summon their host. They are then escorted to the main demonstration area that features an array of solutions allowing them to experience the different specialist technologies Holovis and KingJoy are creating together.

These include a Holovis HVR system, a free Roaming Virtual Reality space where users wear the latest lightweight computer backpacks and are able to explore vast virtual worlds and synthetic environments. This has applications for entertainment, featuring IPs that place guests in the heart of compelling adventures and for enterprise, allowing multi-disciplined engineering teams to visualize their data in 1:1 scale and collaborate globally with colleagues in real-time.

The facility also features a Holovis CAVE, a five-sided all-immersive environment where each wall/surface features 3D volumetric projection to bring any type of data to life in true holographic-style 3D without the need for any VR headsets. Users wear head-tracked glasses to view and naturally interact with the environment and data, allowing them to effortlessly work alongside their colleagues in the same virtual space.

The CAVE will also feature the latest RideView software solution, a proprietary Holovis product used to visualize, simulate, analyse and test all aspects of a masterplan or attraction design. This is used for internal development processes and supporting and client design reviews. These are experienced in 1:1 scale and in real-time, allowing clients to explore their design and data in a highly realistic synthetic representation of the real-world. It also creates the ability to ride the attractions to ensure that different demographics and guest profiles have all been catered for, ensuring the very best and optimum experience, no matter where they are sat in the attraction.

Test builds will also be completed on site for projects shipping from China, ensuring any challenges are realized and overcome prior to shipping and installation. Clients can also bring their stakeholders in for meetings, project reviews and sign offs.

The top floor of the center also features a breakout and networking space with panoramic views across the city and in keeping with local culture, a karaoke area.

The facility will be managed using the latest Holovis HoloTrac software and hardware systems, a unique data-centric ecosystem and experiential management solution that underpins the whole experience for staff and visitors.

Stuart Hetherington, CEO of Holovis explains: “Our operation in China has grown exponentially and having our joint Innovation Center with our partners at KingJoy gives us an amazing ability to demonstrate our solutions and capabilities to our China clients, while continuing to rapidly grow our in-country teams. Alongside our partners KingJoy we are set to deliver a number of high-profile entertainment projects going live in 2020/21 ranging from flagship experiences in major theme parks to more regionalized educational entertainment hubs alongside new transportation networks.”

Frank Tsui, General Manager of KingJoy comments: “The Innovation Center is in one of China’s most prestigious locations, Shi Bei Technology Park where international top-notch high-tech companies in China are located. Having the Innovation Center in the heart of Shanghai enables us not only the best access to the neighboring technology resources but also to offer the flagship client experience. Together with our partners at Holovis we have become one of the largest and most diverse experiential and design solution providers in China and we are looking forward to welcoming our clients and partners to our new Center and continuing our growth and success.”
