IAE17 NEWS: Alterface Introduces WANDER, a Non-linear Game

by Rona Gindin

Holding a crooked branch-like wooden “wand,” Alterface Projects’ Founder and CEO Benoit Cornet officially debuted Wander®, a game system involving play in several separate rooms or distinct areas of an existing attraction. “We have made an evolution to interactivity,” he said this week at IAAPA, the attraction industry’s trade show in Orlando. “We believe people want to talk to people, not only interact with a screen.”

Guest information is stored in a database and each individual or group’s wand identifies the participants. Each experience begins in a center hub, which can be a specially designed room or an easily reachable section of an attraction. Participants are sent on missions to other rooms or park areas, then check back into the central station for new missions. “This is an attraction that is using the other attractions,” he said. “It’s a way to unite your park around one game.”

Additional elements are available, Cornet notes, saying the game can involve elements such as a magic tree that comes to life in front of a wand. New missions, individualized, may be based on crowd size or even special events such as birthday parties. Guests can measure their performance.“We are investing in something we think is magic,” Cornet says of his “non-linear” product, which he tags, “gamification, adding, “We will bring people from one place to another and not in the pre-set way.”
