May 27, 2013 Joe Kleiman Attractions, News Comments Off on LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester Names New Master Model Builder
Yonkers, NY, USA — To the envy of anyone who would love to get paid for building with LEGO bricks all day, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester — which opened at Ridge Hill in Yonkers this past March — has announced that self-described “extreme LEGO enthusiast” and Chicago area native David Howard has been named as the attraction’s Master Model Builder. Howard was recruited from a sibling attraction — LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago — where he served as the senior model builder.
“Like completing a great LEGO build with that last brick, the addition of David to our team is a perfect fit,” said LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester General Manager, Chris Mines. “He brings with him a love for all things LEGO and an amazing set of skills and creativity that are apparent as soon as you meet him and check out any of his builds. We can’t wait to see what brilliant creations he comes up with for LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester.”
In his position as LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester’s Master Model Builder, Howard will be responsible for developing new features and exhibitions, building new models, as well as working with thousands of children and families expected to visit the attraction. He will also lead the attraction’s LEGO Master Builder Academy, a workshop that runs throughout the day where guests learn cool tips and tricks for creating incredible LEGO models.
“I am honored to serve as the LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester Master Model Builder,” said Howard. “I love inspiring people and look forward to helping guests use their creativity and imagination to build whatever comes to mind, and building with LEGO bricks is the perfect way to do that.”
A science major in college, ever since building his first LEGO set as a child (a red tow truck from the City series) Howard has used the versatile bricks as an outlet for his creativity, whether it be rendering 3D LEGO pieces in drafting class while in high school or building amazing LEGO creations as part of his job (his favorite build, a LEGO Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters). He is also a huge Star Wars fan who built his own Star Wars LEGO vehicles and ships before the various themed lines were available to purchase.
Howard is filling a position left vacant following the resignation of LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester’s previous master model builder in March.
