Mousetrappe Wins VES Award for Space Shuttle Atlantis

Burbank, CA, USA — Mousetrappe has won the Visual Effects Society VES Award in the category of Outstanding Visual Effects in a Special Venue Project for the studio’s celebrated work on the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, Space Shuttle Atlantis attraction.

Launched for the public in June 2013 at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, this attraction is the breathtaking $100 million, 90,000 square-foot home of Space Shuttle Atlantis, along with the inspirational story of NASA’s 30-year Space Shuttle Program. As the Show Producer on Space Shuttle Atlantis, Mousetrappe was responsible for designing and producing all of the media content for the attraction’s pre show and main show, as well as the large LED scenic wall behind the orbiter.

Drawing on their expertise in large-format architectural projection, Mousetrappe’s design and production transports guests right into the center of the action through a combination of new live- action reenactments, original archival footage, and stunning new computer-generated (CG) animation – all within a uniquely immersive mapped architectural environment.

Mousetrappe’s design and production work was conducted on behalf of Delaware North Companies Parks & Resorts, operators of Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex for NASA, as well as PGAV Destinations and Nassal.

Cited for the nomination were Mousetrappe’s creative team members and Cedar Connor along with John Gross and Christian Bloch. Eden FX was retained by Mousetrappe to create and produce digital sequences which are interwoven throughout the media. Gross (now at Muse VFX) and Bloch worked on this project for Eden FX.

Other nominated projects in the Special Venue Project category were Hayden Planetarium’s Dark Universe, National Geographic’s Mysteries of the Unseen World, Hong Kong Disneyland’s Mystic Manor, and Super 78’s SpongeBob SquarePants 4D: The Great Jelly Rescue!
