First steel beam in place at St. Louis CITY SC Major League Soccer stadium

St. Louis CITY SC and the club’s construction partners – the joint venture of Mortenson | Alberici | L. Keeley (MAK) – are moving full steam ahead into their next phase of construction. The team kicks it off with the completion of a major milestone, the placement of the first steel beam, with steel fabricated locally in St. Louis by CITY’s construction partners at Alberici.

On Wed., Dec. 9, the St. Louis CITY SC ownership group, city officials and a randomly selected “starting XI” fans participated in a steel beam signing ceremony to commemorate the major milestone. The first steel beam was put in place on Mon., Dec. 14, which initiated this phase of construction.

“It’s astounding to think how far this team and our construction partners at MAK have come in the last 10 months, completing the early construction phase safely and on-time,” said Khalia Collier, Vice President of Community Relations for St. Louis CITY SC. “I’m honored to have signed the stadium district’s first steel beam and mark my name in St. Louis sports history. Now, with the steel in place, I’m looking forward to seeing our world-class stadium district continue to take shape and help further the growth and revitalization of St. Louis.”

CITY selected the “starting XI” fans to join the steel beam signing ceremony from the club’s contest that was posted on the club’s website and shared across all social channels. Fan engagement is a main priority for the club, and Matt Sebek, CITY’s Chief Experience Officer (CXO), plans to continue providing unique fan experiences.

“It was a no-brainer to have fans be a part of this historic moment for the club and our region,” said Sebek. “Our passionate fans always have and always will be a high priority to CITY, and we will continue creating engaging experiences like this ahead of our inaugural season in 2023 and beyond.”

CITY also launched a stadium district-specific website where fans and community members can be immersed in the stadium district progress. As part of the website launch, the spirited video commemorating the steel beam milestone is featured on the site for all CITY fans to celebrate the momentous occasion.
