Super 78 nominated for Producers Guild Award for latest interactive project

Theme park design studio Super 78 has been nominated as a finalist for the Producers Guild of America Innovation Award for its creation of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea: An Interactive Adventure. This interactive character experience, which debuted last month at Moody Gardens in Galveston, TX, is powered by Geppetto, Super 78’s award-winning real-time animation system.

The Producers Guild of America (PGA), in September announced the creation of a new innovation award for the 31st Annual Producers Guild Awards.

According to the PGA, “the Innovation Award will be bestowed upon the production of a noteworthy, impactful new media program that significantly elevates the audience’s viewing experience.”

The award honors exceptional distinctiveness, inventiveness, and impact of the submitted work in expanding the conventions of program format, content, audience interaction, production technique and delivery. Super 78’s Geppetto won the 2016 THEA for Innovation Technology for their SpongeBob Show also at Moody Gardens.

Sixteen finalists were named to the PGA Innovation Award category that, in addition to Super 78, included entries from Dreamworks, Universal Studios, ILM/Lucasfilm and Netflix, to name a few.

2019 has been an groundbreaking year for Super 78. In addition to the debut of 20,000 Leagues, the studio also launched Dino Tour at China Dinosaurland, their largest “Immersion Tunnel” attraction to date, and Flying Over Indonesia, the company’s newest flying attraction which just debuted at Trans Studio theme park in Bali.

Super 78 is currently averaging two attraction launches per year. With three more planned to deliver next year, their total number of installed attractions will reach 20 by the end of 2020.

Brent Young, Super 78’s Creative Director added, “We strive for continued innovation in every attraction we create and having that recognized by a group as prestigious as the Producers Guild of America is a wonderful honor for all of us at Super 78.”

Super 78: Geppetto Grows

Super 78’s Geppetto-powered live interactive character experiences can be found all over the world, including Donkey Live! at Universal Studios Singapore, The Smurfs Village Playhouse at Motiongate Theme Park in Dubai, the all-new 20,000 Leagues attraction at Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas, and another new Geppetto show that will debut in China in 2020. And this past fall, the Television Academy featured Geppetto at two of their EMMY events in addition to the recently announced partnership with the Microsoft Surface.

Dina Benadon, CEO of Super 78, “Being nominated for this new Innovation award by the Producers Guild of America is incredibly humbling for us, especially considering the other nominees in the category.”

The final recipient of the PGA Innovation award will be announced during the PGA awards ceremony on January 18, 2020 in Los Angeles.
