Copenhagen, Denmark and Singapore — Singapore’s premier Sentosa island resort and Tivoli Gardens Copenhagen, one of the world’s oldest amusement parks, has entered into a 2-year cooperation agreement. The collaboration enables Tivoli and Sentosa to establish closer cooperative ties through the exchange of best international tourism practices, as well as gain insights and inspirations from each other. It entails developing feasible collaboration concepts within the tourism and amusement park sectors, in addition to an employee exchange programme as well as other cultural and gastronomic initiatives.

Sentosa, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2012, is a young industry player when compared with Tivoli Garden’s 170 years of operation. Yet, the island resort has quickly developed into one of Asia’s leading and popular leisure & lifestyle destinations with an annual visitation exceeding 19 million guests. Tivolli, on the other hand, is one of the world’s oldest and most famous amusement parks with a strong entertainment brand built over three generations.

The cooperative agreement is a win-win collaboration for both Sentosa and Tivoli as it provides a platform for both attractions to tap on each other’s experiences and strengths.  The first common project will be for Tivoli to contribute to Sentosa’s annual international Sentosa Flowers festival, which will take place on Sentosa Island between 9 and 17 February 2013, on occasion of the Chinese Lunar New Year.

Tivoli A/S CEO Mr. Lars Liebst’s comments on the cooperation: “One of Tivoli’s prime objectives is to be among Denmark’s best work places and with that in mind, we have established a strategic cooperation with Sentosa, one of the largest leisure & lifestyle operators in the tourism industry. With a cooperative partner of Sentosa’s calibre, Tivoli obtains a fantastic showcase of our capabilities, and with the employee exchange programme, select Tivoli employees get a unique opportunity to increase their professional competences at the highest level. It is beneficial for Tivoli to be present in Asia which, during recent decades, has experienced significant growth, welfare and increased travelling abroad. It is essential for us to bring in inspiration from the outside but also inspire others. First step will be Sentosa Flowers and other initiatives are in the pipeline”.

Sentosa Development Corporation CEO Mr. Mike Barclay’s comments on the cooperation: “We are very happy to  collaborate with one of the world’s oldest and most famous amusement parks. Through this collaboration, we aim to tap on the strengths and advantages of our respective leisure offerings, and gain from  a constructive employee exchange programme. This partnership is line with  Sentosa’s growth strategy to continuously set new benchmarks and pursue best-in-class service standards for the benefit and enjoyment of our guests. The collaboration is also an excellent opportunity to create stronger cultural bonds between Singapore and Denmark and we see Tivoli’s participation in our Sentosa Flowers exhibition  as a rewarding first step.”

Tivoli’s contribution to Sentosa Flowers

Sentosa Flowers is one of Sentosa’s award winning signature event that is held annually during the Chinese Lunar New Year.  Into its eighth year, Sentosa Flowers celebrates the arrival of spring. This much anticipated event will transform Sentosa’s golden sands into a floral wonderland, filled with a million seasonal blooms and larger-than-life floral displays.

During Sentosa Flowers, Head of Gardens at Tivoli Mr. Tom Knudsen will contribute a showpiece partially reflecting the Tivoli Gardens’ floral arrangement. Within a designated 50-square metres area, an over-dimensioned wooden barrel will be used as a greenhouse to support the flower decorations and within the barrel, attractive ambience photos from Tivoli will be projected.
As a gesture of goodwill, four select boys (Tivoli Garden’s Boys Guard) from the Tivoli Gardens Tambour Corps will perform at the event, with marching and music, from 10 to 13 February.
