VOA Associates Designing Two Themed Destinations in China

Orlando, FL, USA (April 14, 2015) – The Orlando, FL office of international architecture, planning, interior design, and landscape firm, VOA Associates Incorporated, announce their commission to provide complete design services for Badaling Chadao and Tianzishan of China. Each of these projects involves the development of thematic entertainment, dining, and retail destinations in China. Design development of these sites is currently underway, and construction is expected to commence in summer 2015.

VOA’s scope of services includes brand development, concept design, schematic design, and design development. VOA has designed these spaces as thematic hubs for visitor information, entertainment and interpretive education. “By using a thematic approach, we seek to reveal the meanings and relationships of China’s cultural and natural heritage, through involvement with people’s stories, artifacts, and geographically significant landscapes,” says VOA Managing Principal, Jonathan F. Douglas, AIA. VOA is working closely with Legend Tourism Investment to expand the boundaries of interpretation to encompass not only the authenticity of China’s history and culture, but allow guests to experience a range of underlying stories woven together within various transformative settings.

VOA’s involvement in the design of Badaling Chadao currently includes the Chadao Marketplace, a Highend Meeting and Conference Venue, the Chadao Stadium, the Chadao Estate, and the Chadao Village featuring live entertainment, historical interaction and preservation of four historical buildings. All located approximately a mile from the Great Wall of China, these areas reflect different parts of an ancient system of fortified defenses, preserved and presented as an enriching and interactive walk through time. Tianzishan currently includes a series of thematic Retail Dining & Entertainment neighborhoods that grew over time from a small farming and deeply spiritual community. Within this space are various market plazas, an outdoor performance theater, and a temple for worship.
