Wayne LaBar Leaves Liberty Science Center, Founds ALCHEMY Studio

Maplewood, NJ, USA — After thirteen years at Liberty Science Center (LSC), Wayne LaBar has launched ALCHEMY studio, an independent development, design and consulting studio that will work with science centers, museum, government agencies, NGO’s, filmmakers and others involved in the public engagement of science, history, technology and the humanities.

In addition to his work at LSC, LaBar served as Principal for Experience Services, which originally began in 2006 as LSC Experience Services, and has worked in parts far and wide including Winnipeg, Canada, New York City, Konya, Turkey, and Dammam, Saudi Arabia helping communities and staff to plan and design new museums and reinventing existing institutions. The origins of Experience Services date back to when LaBar and the team he lead developed the suite of new experiences and environments that are part of the multi-year $110 million experience renewal program that transformed Liberty Science Center when it reopened in 2007

With 24 years of museum exhibition development/design experience, LaBar has worked in leadership positions at Liberty Science Center as Vice President of Exhibitions and Featured Experiences, at The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, California where he lead that expansion project, at the design firm Krent/Paffett Associates, and the Carnegie Science Center. LaBar began his career at NASA and has a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology

LaBar has published and presented in numerous publications at a forums and conference globally on exhibitions/experiences, museum planning and the merging world of experience, technology and social mediums. He explored how to use new advances in technology and their resultant social changes to advance the exhibition field. This includes projects such as Science NowScience Everywhere or SNSE (http://snse.lsc.org) and the public exhibition design process for the Cooking exhibition at www.cookingexhibition.org.
