Keynote Speakers Announced for 2016 IMERSA Summit

Denver, CO, USA — Taking place in Denver March 16-21, 2016, the 2016 IMERSA Summit’s theme is “Exploring the Immersive Universe,” and features speakers on business and creative endeavors, the interplay of immersive cinema and VR, and offers immersive content presentations, panel discussions, and networking events for members of the immersive media community.

The Summit attracts production professionals, artists, hardware and content vendors, and others working in immersive content creation, will attend. This is the 7th annual IMERSA Summit, a meeting fast becoming the “go to” event for the immersive community.

This year’s keynote speakers are:
Jenny Carden, a sculptor and futurist known for her work in in Augmented Reality Street Art under the rubric “Street Art for the Galactic Age.” Past works include large-scale murals, ceramic installations and other works deployed in Los Angeles, Portland, Buenos Aires, and Panama. Her artwork explores the theme of how technological advances accelerate over time. For her 7:00 pm March 17th keynote, keynote Ms Carden will chart the hardware and content marketplace today and reveal the humorous development path the technology has taken over the last 50 years.
David McConville, chairman of the Buckminster Fuller Institute and known in the fulldome and immersive community as co-founder of Eluminati, will kick off the Summit with a thought-provoking presentation onWednesday, March 16th. He will give context to the growing awareness that our immersive tools can be used for positive social change. It is clear that artists, philosophers and technologists are embracing our medium and leveraging our profoundly affective tools far beyond the planetarium, and he will present his thoughts about where our immersive experiences are going.
A professor of Media Arts and Technology and Music at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Dr. JoAnn Kucera-Morin will offer her view of immersive content and its effect through a look at her domed lab called the Allosphere Research FacilityAllosphere. This three-story echo-free (near-anechoic) cube allows interactive visual and aural representation of mathematical and scientific data. Dr. Kucera-Morin will speak on Saturday March 20, 2016, giving a fascinating look into the research behind immersive presentation of big data.
