AAM and InfoComm trade gatherings go virtual for 2020

by Judith Rubin, InPark Magazine Editor

Some of the well established trade shows that had cancelled their real-world meetings for 2020 are now being re-imagined in virtual form. Two examples are the AAM Museum Expo and the InfoComm Show, which have been must-attends on many people’s annual itineraries for many years. While the effects of COVID-19 restrict in-person gatherings, these virtual expos can help associations provide continuity to their members and communities. Sharing information and making the most of communication channels sends a positive message and helps position individuals and businesses for eventual recovery of the attractions industry.

AAM Virtual Annual Meeting & MuseumExpo #AAMvirtual

Launching on International Museums Day (May 18, 2020) and continuing the following month (June 1-4, 2020) the Virtual Annual Meeting & MuseumExpo of the American Alliance of Museum promises networking opportunities, inspiring programming, and the MuseumExpo in virtual form. The AAM annual gathering brings together museums of all types and sizes – from art and history museums to zoos and botanic gardens – to share ideas and make connections.

The theme is “Radical Reimagining” and AAM has announced several content tracks. “Reinspire” looks for ways to use the impacts of the pandemic as an opportunity to create a stronger field. “Rebuild” seeks models for recovery and a more sustainable future. “Reengage” will incorporate professional development content that had been intended for the original program. “Reconnect” offers a range of networking opportunities. InfoComm 2020 Connected

The professional AV sector has been well served over many years by the annual InfoComm show, which had alternated between Orlando and Las Vegas. The show is produced by AVIXA™, the Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association.

Now, AVIXA has announced that it will host its first virtual event, InfoComm 2020 Connected, June 16-18, 2020. From the official AVIXA statement: “We’re very excited to provide a virtual platform for participants to explore products, training and thought-leadership sessions, and the opportunity to network with others in the AV industry from around the globe.”

Call for feedback: As AVIXA develops the InfoComm virtual program, they have requested input from their community. They ask to hear from AV professionals about the sessions, events, and products they are most interested in, to help develop the program. Feedback can be shared at this link.
