Audubon Aquarium receives resource management award

 

On Thursday, January 24 Audubon Aquarium was selected as the recipient of the 2019 Love Your City Resource Management Award for the Aquarium’s work in reducing single use plastics.

Audubon Aquarium, Vice President and Managing Director, Rich Toth accepted the award on behalf of Audubon at the 7th Edition of the Love Your City Awards Gala.

“We are very honored to receive this award. Audubon is committed to leading our community by example when it comes to protecting the environment. Since 2017, we’ve eliminated plastics straws, replaced plastic bags in our gift shops, and moved from plastic to aluminum bottled water,” said Rich Toth, Vice President and Managing Director of Audubon Aquarium.

Love Your City is a LifeCity initiative that supports the development of the impact economy and growth of for-benefit organizations in Louisiana.

Supported by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, Love Your City’s Regional Sustainability Committee (RSC) is made up of recognized leaders and subject-matter experts in our community who understand how to maximize impact through economic development in areas, such as housing, food, and stormwater management.

The Top 10 Impact Categories included: Food, Resource Management, Transportation, Education, Culture, Energy, Economic Opportunity, Health, Stormwater Management, and Housing.

These Impact Categories were selected by the Regional Sustainability Committee to direct collective efforts towards a more sustainable, resilient, and equitable community for New Orleans.
