D3D supplies digital 3D cinema systems to science museums in New York and North Carolina

[Evanston, Ilinois, USA] – D3D Cinema announced the opening of new digital 3D theaters at the New York Hall of Science in Queens, NY and at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, NC. Outfitted with state-of-the-art Barco DLP projectors and industry-leading Dolby Digital 3D technology, the theaters mark the two newest additions to D3D’s expanding museum cinema footprint.

“This venture has been a wonderful success for NYSCI since opening the theater in October,” Robert Logan, Executive Vice President & COO of the New York Hall of Science said. “What was once an underutilized lecture auditorium is now a multi-functional, revenue-generating NYSCI visitor destination! [Our first film] Wild Ocean is proving to be very popular with both schools and the general public.”

Betsy Bennett, Director of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, said, “We’re thrilled. WRAL, our theater presenting partner, is thrilled. Most importantly, our museum audience is thrilled! The kickoff weekend with Tornado Alley was a home run in Raleigh. Due to demand, we ended up having to add several shows. We’re looking forward to a rewarding, long-term relationship with D3D.”

The North Carolina Museum will be hosting the ASTC (Association of Science and Technology Centers) Conference in 2014 and the new theater will play a major role. This marks the second theater D3D has installed at a future ASTC Conference site in the past year. In May, D3D integrated a digital giant screen theater at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science in Albuquerque, host of the 2013 conference.

Andy Wood, Sr. Vice President of D3D Cinema, said “It’s really exciting to see new museums entering the theatrical exhibition business. Digital technology has created a viable economic model for museum theaters of all shapes and sizes — growing this network is at the heart of D3D’s mission. NYSCI and NCM are part of a vibrant new family of venues dedicated to quality documentary programming, and we’re proud to be partnered with both.”
