Los Angeles, CA (August 19, 2012) — The body of film director Tony Scott, younger brother of Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner) was recovered by the Los Angeles Port Police at 3:00 this afternoon. He is believed to have committed suicide by jumping off the Vincent Thomas Bridge earlier in the day.
Scott was a prolific film director and producer. Two of his early films were translated into theme park attractions when Paramount began branding the Kings Entertainment parks – a Bolliger & Mabillard suspended looping coaster and an Arrow suspended coaster- themed to the film Top Gun and an Iwerks TurboTour simulator film based on the Days of Thunder NASCAR racing movie. Both theatrical films starred Tom Cruise. At the time of his death, Scott was working on both a 3D conversion of the original Top Gun and production of a sequel.
In addition, Scott and his brother Ripley were executive producers of Life in a Day, a user generated film shot around the planet on a single day. To complete the film, more than 80,000 videos submitted to youtube were reviewed by director Kevin Macdonald and culled into a 95 minute documentary distributed to commercial and museum theaters by National Geographic.
