Dubai ruler reveals plan for new tourism district within the Emirate

According to a Nov 24 announcement by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai, the Emirate of Dubai will establish a new tourism district consisting of four main sectors. 

The announcement makes reference to an entertainment sector featuring “the largest family entertainment center in the Middle East, Africa and Indian subcontinent in collaboration with Universal Studios,” a retail sector “with the largest mall in the world,” a business sector focused on “entrepreneurship and innovation in the region,” and a sector for cultural exhibitions and galleries, “the largest in the Middle East and North Africa.”

The announcement further indicates plans for more than 100 new hotel facilities as well as upscale retail, and the application of greenbuilding standards.
