RUST, Germany — A few weeks ago, Europa-Park presented plans for its new themed, 4-star hotel “Bell Rock”, which will be built in New England Shaker style and open its doors in summer 2012. It will be the fifth themed hotel of Europa-Park Hotel Resort, have a 7,000 square meter footprint, a seaside theme and landscaping, a geothermal heating system, 225 rooms and 220 square meters of “confer-tainment” space.

Also for season 2012, a new wooden rollercoaster will rise on 1.6 hectares of the 85-hectare property. It will be the 11th rollercoaster at Europa-Park. Europa-Park is giving a modern twist to this traditional-style ride by using sustainable materials to build the wooden coaster.

The park has released several facts concerning the new wooden coaster: It will be built over a period of 9 months, be 1050 metres long and 35 metres high and reach speeds over 100 km/h and a maximal vertical acceleration up to 3.5 Gs. Its name is still a mystery for the moment, but it will be built in the Icelandic themed area of Europa-Park. Besides the high speed, racy bends and suspenseful pauses, the new rollercoaster will be integrated into the current rollercoaster landscape, crossing the tracks of two other attractions.

The new attraction will be constructed by the company “Great Coasters International, Inc.” from Pennsylvania, USA, which is a leading constructor of wooden rollercoasters. Up to 26 carpenters, including numerous German colleagues besides the experts from the USA, will take part in the construction process.

This is Europa-Park’s first wooden rollercoaster. The wood will principally originate from German forests and be the certified product of sustainable forestry. The park estimates that construction of the new rollercoaster will create around 20 new and modern long-term jobs. and that the new hotel will create 260 new jobs.

Roland Mack, Managing Partner of Europa-Park, is the designated Chairman of IAAPA.
