Expo 2020 Dubai pavilion designs unveiled for Japan and Brazil

Two unique national pavilion designs have been unveiled for Expo 2020 Dubai.

JAPAN

The Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro) has unveiled the design for its country’s pavilion for Expo 2020 Dubai (above).

The pavilion will be a detailed and dynamic space with reverence to Arabic design and culture and will symbolize the connection of the Middle East with Japan’s history, particularly along the Silk Road. The pavilion’s geometry and design while feature a façade encompassing both Arabesque and Japanese Asanoha patterns.

Themed as ‘The Crosspoint for the Future’ the pavilion will allow visitors to experience what results from the harmony between people, ideas and technology.

BRAZIL

While the desert is not typically associated with lush, aqueous environments, Brazil has unveiled plans to recreate the Amazon basin in the UAE through its country pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.

Built around a walkable ‘water blade’, the 4,000-sqm Brazil Pavilion will recreate the sights, sounds and scents of the country’s riverside areas to refresh Expo visitors from every corner of the planet.

The building, which was designed by architects from JPG.ARQ, MMBB and Ben-Avid, will promote biodiversity, environmental preservation and competitiveness by showcasing the benefits of multiculturalism and sustainable best practice.

Inspired by the Rio Negro – the largest left tributary of the Amazon River – the pavilion’s floor resembles the stilt houses common in the riverside areas of Brazil’s northern region. The eye-catching structure will provide shade during the day and resemble a luminous floating cube at night.

Located in Expo 2020’s Sustainability Thematic District, the pavilion will enable Brazil to promote its diversity, gastronomy and culture to the international community.

The Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), which is responsible for developing and operating the pavilion, will use Expo 2020 as a platform to attract trade and direct foreign investment, with agribusiness and innovative technologies representing key focuses.
