Global Imagination’s Magic Planet at Tycho Brahe Planetarium |
‘Each year, over 250,000 visitors pass through the doors of the Tycho Brahe Planetarium in Copenhagen, Denmark. Starting in May of 2010, visitors to the planetarium were treated to a new addition: The educational and engaging Magic Planet®.
The 30″ (76cm) pedestal system with an EVO projector offers visitors to Tycho Brahe a glimpse into the dynamic features of the planets and major moons. The planetarium has utilized the free NASA / ESA “Solar System Tour” interface to educate their visitors, and they recently launched a bilingual (Danish/English) version of the touch-screen in the summer of 2010.
The planetarium’s Magic Planet was fully funded by the Nordea Foundation, a charitable Danish foundation committed to activities that are “good for both body and soul.” It was housed in the permanent Active Universe exhibit, which includes a model of the International Space Station and the planets of the Solar System hanging from the ceiling.
“The Magic Planet gives our visitors a unique opportunity to experience the dynamics of weather and other phenomena on Earth,” said Dr. Michael J.D. Linden-Vørnle, “[The] Magic Planet is a formidable outreach tool for astronomy and space science… Both we and our visitors love it!”‘
