John Wright, past president of TEA and co-founder of Lexington, dies

Message from Lexington Design & Fabrication:

“In memory of our beloved friend, partner & boss.

“Frank Bencivengo, COO of Lexington was saddened to learn of the passing of John Wright, his partner and co-founder of the old Lexington Scenery and Props. John would have liked to make all the world a stage and you the star. He was a talented, creative, gentle, generous, caring man who was universally loved by all who knew him.

“In 1984, John and Frank were employed as executives for the Lexington Avenue Set Shop. They went on to join forces and merchandise their experience in theater, design and business and purchased the company and developed a business with unique talents.

“John made a deep impact on the industry and was a founding member of the Themed Entertainment Association serving as president in 1999. He guided the organization for four years growing its membership and shaping it’s future. He remained an active member of the TEA to the end, helping to define the outstanding projects honored at the annual Thea awards.

“A great patron of the arts, John supported new emerging artists by filling his home with paintings, glass, pottery, and sculpture. He had an extensive musical instrument collection and was proficient on many of them. He relished giving impromptu demonstrations on esoteric ethnic instruments that created amazing and haunting sounds. He was truly a Renaissance man and the child in him was fascinated with numerous subjects.

“John will be missed by us all and we send our heart felt condolences to his wife, Molly Miles who was his soul mate and partner in all his endeavors.”
