Luna Park in Coney Island has announced it has resumed its pandemic-halted expansion featuring new attractions including a roller coaster intertwined with a flume ride, a ropes course structure facing the Atlantic Ocean and the transformation of three streets in landscaped pedestrian plazas. On Oct. 5, Luna Park hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to kick-off the pandemic-delayed development to celebrate the new attractions and pedestrian plazas set to open for the 2022 Season.

The expansion of Luna Park in Coney Island will premiere the Super Flume and the J2SK Coaster. The Super Flume ride will lift guests up to 40 feet and provide them with a semi-circle panoramic view of the shoreline before plunging down to a speed of over 35 mph for the big splash. The flume ride will operate with 12 boats that can seat up to six guests at a time. The trough of the Super Flume will be more than 1,200 feet in length and will be tactically intertwined with the track of the J2SK Coaster. Riders will embark on a coaster as it bends and curves throughout the path of the Super Flume at more than 30 mph. The J2SK Coaster is comprised of two fabricated trains equipped with ADA access.

Appropriately named by the local Brooklyn community, Luna Park will also be introducing the Sky Chaser ropes course structure in 2022. This adventure zone gives climbers a view of the Coney Island boardwalk and the Atlantic Ocean from up to 50 feet, and includes both ropes courses and zip lines for all ages and skill levels.

In addition to the three new attractions, Luna Park is transforming three streets in landscaped pedestrian plazas between Wonder Wheel Way and the Coney Island Boardwalk. These new pedestrian plazas will be an open-air entertainment destination with food, games and retail locations, adorned with shaded seating and greenery. The expansion is set to create an additional 100 jobs in the Coney Island Amusement District.

“Each season, our goal is to deliver the best thrills and experiences to our local community as well as the tourists that visit us each year,” said Alessandro Zamperla, President and CEO of Central Amusement International. “With the addition of these new attractions and pedestrian plazas, we are excited to continue to celebrate the legacy of Coney Island by bringing the finest in amusement park innovations to New York City.”
