San Francisco, USA — The Exploratorium has teamed up with Pixar Animation Studios and MAKE magazine to present Open MAKE, a monthly program highlighting the tools, techniques, and ingenuity of local Makers. Each month, through May, sessions will explore a different theme, centering activities, exhibits and artists around a new material—plastic, cardboard, metal/wire and wood. In parallel, a group of teenaged Young Makers meet with a group of seasoned Makers to develop their own projects to bring to this year’s Maker Faire. During Open MAKE sessions, adults and youth alike are welcome to play and create inside the Tinkering Studio, where Makers from around the San Francisco Bay Area will share their work. Participants can also join Dale Dougherty, founder and editor of MAKE magazine, as he interviews featured Makers in the McBean Theater. Schedule and more info here.

The Exploratorium will receive the Thea Classic Award in March 2011 from the Themed Entertainment Association.
