Phase Two of CityArchRiver’s Riverfront Project Underway

St Louis, MO, USA — This month, the southern portion of the Central Riverfront will open to pedestrians and motorists. Bicyclists will be able to use a new separated lane along Leonor K. Sullivan Blvd., and visitors to downtown and the Gateway Arch will be able to access the cobblestone levee and riverboats.

When work shifts on the Central Riverfront, access to the Arch and riverboats will change. For maps and more information on getting around and parking downtown for the Arch, visit www.CityArchRiver.org/construction.

This section of the Central Riverfront will be the first CityArchRiver component to open since Great Rivers Greenway broke ground on the project in November 2013. The roadway has been raised 2.5 feet between Chouteau Ave. and the Grand Staircase. New permanent lighting fixtures and planters will be installed in 2015.

North of the Grand Staircase, demolition work is already underway along Leonor K. Sullivan Blvd. to the Biddle Street Trailhead.

When complete in 2015, the entire 1.5 mile Central Riverfront will have more lighting, security, and green space. The raised roadway will flood less often and connect to the new Circulation Loop, now under construction, around the Arch grounds.
