Message from FSY Architects and Artisan Design:
“FSY Architects is proud to announce the grand opening of the “4-D” Capitol Theatre at Fort Edmonton Park in Edmonton, Canada. The 10,000 square-foot building is a re-creation of Edmonton’s original Capitol Theatre (c. 1929), formerly in downtown Edmonton. The building’s façade has been re-created to accurately represent the Capitol Theatre’s 1929 restoration.
Internally, the new building incorporates modern construction methods, which balance current building code requirements and the necessary technical infrastructure with historical authenticity. The main attraction of the Capitol Theatre is the presentation of a multi-media short film, Northern Light – The Edmonton Story, which focuses on Edmonton’s dynamic history in a 4-D, fully immersive entertainment experience.
Artisan Design collaborated with FSY Architects on the project. Artisan Design’s Rob Wyatt was executive producer and John King was creative director.

“With an intimate seating capacity of 250 seats, the theatre will also be open for live theatre productions (currently running, Velveteen Rabbit) in the evenings and all during the winter season when Fort Edmonton Park is typically closed. It may also be used as a multi-purpose facility for outside theatre groups, local film festivals, annual general meetings, children’s programming, corporate meetings, and other types of gatherings.”
