Reel FX Wins Annie and VES Awards for “Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem”

Minion Test 3-D Goggles - LRDallas, TX, USA (February 5, 2013) — Dallas based CG animation and effects company Reel FX has won two prestigious awards in just three days for their work on the Universal Studios Florida attraction “Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem.”  On Saturday, February 2, the attraction was awarded an Annie by the International Animated Film Society for Best Animated Special Production.  Today, it won the VES Award for Visual Effects in a Special Venue Project from the Visual Effects Society.  Other nominees in this category included “Turtle Trek” from SeaWorld and Falcon’s Treehouse, “Earthquake: Evidence of a Restless Planet” from the California Academy of Sciences, and “The Ball Unleashed” from the New York Mets and Digital Domain.  “Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem” is a co-production of Illumination Entertainment and Universal Creative.
