Super 78’s real-time animation show 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea opens at Moody Gardens

Super 78 just launched their most advanced Geppetto™-powered real-time animation show to date at Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas debuting this week.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: An Interactive Adventure features an all new cast of original characters created by Super 78. The show replaces the SpongeBob SubPants Adventure, Super 78’s Thea Award-honored Geppetto show that they launched in 2015.

This brand-new adventure takes guests on a fun-filled voyage aboard an upgraded Nautilus submarine, complete with unusual sea life encounters. Guests will get to be part of the crew led by Deep, a robotically-enhanced pufferfish. Along with Deep’s helper robots, Echo and Torque, they help navigate the ship, choosing some of the destinations they visit, and take photographs of the marine life they meet. Guests are immersed in the action as the 3D media on the main screen is enhanced with exciting 4D sensory elements, like dripping water, bursts of “steam,” playful aromas and more.

SLIDESHOW:

“Guests travel on a magical adventure and are entertained by the variety of undersea characters we have created for the show” said Super 78’s Creative Director Brent Young. In order to provide more comedy within the show, Super 78 brought in accomplished screenwriter Bennett Yellin (“Dumb and Dumber,” “Stuck on You”) – now working in themed entertainment – to make the attraction’s comedic aspects as strong as possible.

“When creating an interactive attraction, its important that the characters in the story connect in the right way with the audience. Being able to bring in someone like Bennett with his Theatrical Feature background was a big win for us and the show,” added Young.

Powering this new show is Super 78’s Geppetto real-time animation control system that was also honored with a Thea Award for “Breakthrough Technology.” This system allows a single performer to control all aspects of the full-sensory experience, including show control and every 4D element, with just the push of a button. The performer has an almost unlimited palette of animation options to bring the character to life.

“We are thrilled to be debuting this new interactive adventure in our Audience Recognition Theater at Moody Gardens,” said John Zendt, Moody Gardens President and CEO. “It is always a treat to be able to see the reactions of the audience to things happening in the show, especially when they have a role in how the story plays out.”

Super 78’s CEO Dina Benadon, who has overseen the evolution of these types of 4D shows, added, “Geppetto’s ability to ensure that no two shows are ever alike creates simply amazing — and highly repeatable — guest experiences. Our partners at Moody Gardens understand how important this is and we are so happy to be working closely once again with John Zendt and his amazing team.”

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea: An Interactive Adventure will also be available for licensing starting this week at IAAPA Orlando.
