Largest Triotech XD attraction in Southern Hemisphere opens in New Zealand

Rainbow’s End announces the opening of the new Spectra XD Dark Ride, a new interactive dark right theater from Tritotech, and the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.

The custom 28-seat ride mixes the thrill of an amusement park ride, with movies and gaming. It’s a modern twist on the 3D experience and sure to entertain everyone in the family.

The ride features different movies in 3D, with all of the extra features to tickle the senses AND light blasters so players can participate in the story, while competing with friends and family to find the champion.

The Spectra XD Dark Ride replaces the previous 3D Motion Master ride at Rainbow’s End. It was due to open during the April school holidays, but the installation was abruptly stalled when the ride manufacturer, Triotech, had to halt work due to the COVID lockdown and return to Canada.

As soon as New Zealand moved to Level 2 the Park re-opened and the Rainbow’s End Construction and Maintenance team worked remotely with the Canadian-based ride manufacturer to finish the commissioning of the ride and prepare it for opening.

“We are really excited to be opening the Spectra XD Dark Ride in time for the July school holidays,” said Karen Crabb, CEO. “It has been a massive team effort to complete the installation and theming. Kiwis are incredibly creative and resourceful and this is a great example of how we can pull together to create an entertainment offering that rivals our international counterparts.”

”We are happy to bring Triotech’s award-winning attractions to Rainbow’s End,” said Ernest Yale, Triotech’s Founder and CEO. “New Zealand has been doing extremely well considering the current worldwide public health situation. Having been there myself, I found it to be a spectacular country with wonderful people, so I am very happy that we have opened our largest attraction in New Zealand at Rainbow’s End.”
