Turkey & Thailand bid to host 2020 world expo; Kazakhstan & Belgium for 2017

The Mayor of Izmir, Mr Aziz KOCAOGLU , and Mr Akapol SORASUCHART, President of theThailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau, introduced respectively the candidatures of IZMIR and AYUTTHAYA during the last BIE General Assembly.

Two countries have submitted candidacy applications to host World Expo in 2020 to the BIE, the international body that regulates world expositions: Turkey, in the city of IZMIR, and Thailand, in the city of AYUTTHAYA. Other candidates for 2020 can still apply until November 2nd, 2011.

Izmir Turkey 2020 proposes: “New Routes to a Better World / Health for All,” April 30 – October 31, 2020 with a projected 30 million visitors.

Ayutthaya Thailand 2020 proposes: “Redefine globalisation; Balanced life, sustainable living,” January 15 – June 15, 2020 and projects more than 30 million visitors.

Two countries have also submitted candidacy applications to the BIE to host an International Expo in 2017: Kazakhstan, in the city of ASTANA, and Belgium, in the city of LIEGE. Other candidates can still apply until December 10th, 2011.

Astana Kazakhstan 2017 proposes: “Future Energy,”June 10 – September 10, 2017.  Expected participants: more than 100 countries and 6 international organizations. Expected visitors: over 5 million.

Liège Belgium 2017
proposes: “Connecting the world – Linking people,” June 21 – September 20, 2017.
H.E.M. Nurlan DANENOV, Ambassador of Kazakhstan in France, and Prime Minister of Belgium, Yves LETERME have respectively presented the candidatures of ASTANA and LIEGE.
