3D Live Announces New Executives and Thea Award

 

3D Live has added entertainment and theme-park industry veterans Kang Ahn and Christian Dieckmann to its management team, and its innovative core technology will receive the prestigious Thea Award from the Themed Entertainment Association at a gala ceremony on April 7, 2018.

The Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement in Innovative Technology honors 3D Live’s patented “holographic” 3D LED display technology, which has been used in such acclaimed experiences as the award-winning Mass Effect: New Earth attraction at California’s Great America theme park and the Music of Light stage show at Disney’s El Capitan Theater. This fall, 3D Live served as co-producers on the North American concert tour of electronic music artist Flying Lotus, providing the tour’s 3D LED technology. For its work, 3D Live has also received a Pollstar Award nomination as Best Tech Enhancement of the Year.3D Live’s Thea Award places it alongside such other 2018 award recipients as Pandora – The World of Avatar at Walt Disney World and Ghost Town Alive! at Knott’s Berry Farm.

CEDAR FAIR: Mass Effect: New Earth

As 3D Live expands, it has also named senior-level entertainment and theme-park industry veterans to its management team: Kang Ahn has been named 3D Live’s chief financial officer and Christian Dieckmann joins 3D Live as chief strategy officer.

Ahn joins 3D Live from leading global 3D and visualization provider RealD, where he was responsible for leading cross-functional efforts to bring innovative, high-impact technology products and services to the cinema market.  Ahn was also chief operating officer of MasterImage 3D Inc., and worked with multiple technology startups in Silicon Valley and Seoul, Korea, both as an executive and investor.  Ahn received his MBA from the Yale School of Management and his BS in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University.

Dieckmann comes to 3D Live from theme-park leader Cedar Fair Entertainment, where he led efforts at the intersection of technology and entertainment, including virtual reality and augmented reality. Dieckmann spearheaded the award-winning Mass Effect: New Earth at California’s Great America Park, which is powered by 3D Live’s LED technology. Dieckmann, who has also worked at Bain & Company and at GE Capital, received his MBA from the Wharton School, an M.A. in international studies from the University of Pennsylvania, and his undergraduate degree from Boston College.
