Legacy I GGE Designed Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park to Open Sept 28

The world’s largest theme park debut of 2018, Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park, now has an opening date: September 28th. The announcement was made by Wang Wei, Chairman of Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park, during an event at Shanghai’s Intercontinental Hotel. Wei also revealed other details of the park during that recent event.

The new Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park was designed by the Hollywood, CA-based company Legacy I GGE.

The new project is the latest dramatic expansion by Dalian Haichang Group, mainland China’s largest marine theme park operator. Positioned less than 30 minutes from Shanghai Disneyland by car, the 73-acre theme park (29.7 hectares) is expected to draw over three million visitors during its first year of operation.

“Working alongside our friends at Haichang, our goal was to create the world’s greatest marine life park,” says Mardy Ma, Managing Director of China for Legacy | GGE.  “Parks like Sea World evolve in small pieces over many years, whereas we had the luxury of designing the entire park from the ground up. This allowed us to seamlessly integrate the latest design trends and animal care technologies.”

In addition to six pavilions and three theaters, the new park will also be home to a number of non- sea life related attractions, including an Intamin launched roller coaster, and the world’s longest Spinning Rapids Ride, provided by WhiteWater.

SLIDESHOW:

Eric Carnagey, Legacy | GGE’s Managing Director of Global Business Development, Marketing & Media, sees incredible potential for the project. “Over 330 million people live within a three-hour drive of the park. This, paired with Haichang’s exclusive attractions and competitive ticket pricing, has set them up for great success.”

The new project is the latest in a long line of large-scale marine life destinations brought to life by Legacy | GGE, beginning with the Georgia Aquarium in 2005. This past year also saw the opening of the Legacy I GGE designed Kingdom of Poseidon integrated resort in China’s northern city of Harbin. In addition, a December 2018 premiere is currently slated for an as yet-unnamed second gate expansion of Chimelong’s Ocean Kingdom in Zhuhai – another massive project designed by Legacy I GGE.
