Mad Systems Invites Public to Win 3D Print

A working Geneva mechanism from Mad's 3D printer.Orange, CA, USA — Mad Systems has asked us to share the following:

Last week, our friends at the Smithsonian Institution made history by launching an online, interactive and user-friendly database of 3D scans (models) of some of their artifacts on hand at their museums.

This means you can go online and get up close with some of the coolest items they have in stock. From the Wright Flyer to a Wooly Mammoth, the possibilities are endless. We think the neatest feature is that you can actually 3D print right from this site (assuming that you own a 3D printer).

Don’t own a 3D printer? Well you’re in luck!

For 12 more days, you can go on Mad Systems’ facebook, “like” us, “share” the 3D printing contest photo at the top and vote for your favorite institution or museum to win a 3D print straight from the Mad 3D Printer!

Get your friends, family and fans to vote for your museum or organization because on Black Friday, we’ll be tallying up the votes and whoever’s got the most will be receiving a 3D printed object of their choice just in time for the holidays.

There are some limits to what is possible to print within the 4″x4″x4″ envelope- but if you don’t have something you’ve designed that you’d like to have us print, it’s possible to choose from some pre-designed objects for your very own 3D print!

You only have until Black Friday to get your votes in so remember:

1. Go to Mad Systems’ facebook and “like” us.
2. “Share” the photo at the top
3. Vote for your favorite museum/institution in the comments

Two weeks from today, we’ll be announcing the winner and firing up the 3D printer!

Have a great week!

Sincerely,
Mad Systems Inc.

Chilly Ribbons Unveils Mobile Kiosk at IAAPA Attractions Expo

image001 (1)

Orlando, FL, USA (November 19, 2013) — Today, Chilly Ribbons, creators of an entirely new frozen dessert food category in North America called ‘shaved snow’, introduces its mobile kiosk opportunity to International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Expo attendees at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, November 19-22.   Chilly Ribbons is now making it’s kiosk franchise model available to serve amusement parks and attractions looking to give their guests a unique frozen treat that brings new flavor and added entertainment value to the theme park experience.

Chilly Ribbons will have one of their ’ski chalet’ mobile kiosks on site, where attendees will get a taste of this latest frozen treat and ‘sense’ all aspects of the entertaining customer experience as they enter a warm and inviting wintery booth, complete with snow flakes falling, chimney smoke and icicles.

image003 (1)

A popular frozen dessert enjoyed throughout Asia for centuries, Chilly Ribbons is NOT ice cream, shaved ice, frozen yogurt or gelato. It is light and fluffy, like real snow, and most often likened to frozen cotton candy. Guests can enjoy this delicious, low calorie frozen dessert while being entertained watching long ribbons of shaved snow flying into their bowls at high speed from blocks of creamy, flavored ice.

“Chilly Ribbons presents a fresh opportunity for amusement parks that’s as much about the show as the taste,” said Chilly Ribbons CEO Scott Colwell.  “We are thrilled to share our mobile kiosk with Expo attendees looking to provide their guests with a new and exciting frozen dessert that makes its own lasting impression within the theme park experience.”

Unlike shaved ice and other frozen desserts that are topped with syrups for flavoring, Chilly Ribbons is infused with high quality ingredients, all natural flavorings and real fruit purees during the proprietary pasteurization and freezing process. The shaved snow comes in a wide variety of flavors, ranging from mango, coconut and butter pecan to green tea, chocolate fudge and strawberry.  In all, Chilly Ribbons offers more than 40 flavors. Toppings include exotic fruits and the more traditional sprinkles and candies.

Chilly Ribbons’ shaved snow products have been available in Asia for many years in small venues, but because of meltage and handling issues, no one had been able—until now– to develop the delivery system to bring it to North American markets on a commercially viable scale. Through Chilly Ribbon’s innovation, the world’s first self-refrigerated multi-flavored ice shaving technology has been developed, making the delivery of shaved snow frozen treats possible worldwide and on a scale for operators of locations where not possible before.

The Chilly Ribbons Mobile Kiosks provide a full turnkey operation, keeping with the distinct branding theme of a beautiful ski lodge. Each one resembles the outside of a ski chalet, complete with light-up icicles, smoke coming out of the chimney, and falling snow.  The kiosks are ideally suited for any location where people gather; an amusement park, a museum, at a resort or a tourist attraction. Being designed with mobility in mind, each kiosk is easily lifted and transported on a custom trailer to its new destination, whether it’s for a special event or the entire season.

nWave Pictures Introduces Red Star’s “The Lost World 4D” at IAAPA Attractions Expo

NWP-Leaflet US LostWorld.indd

Orlando (Florida) and Brussels (Belgium) –  Nov. 19, 2013 — nWave Pictures Distribution will premiere its newest 4D attraction film “The Lost World” at this week’s IAAPA Annual Attractions Expo in Orlando, Fl.  Produced by British animation studio Red Star and directed by Ben Smith, this epic film takes the audiences into a whole new world of adventure, 40 million years in the making. This new 11-minute 4D title is exclusively distributed by nWave and will be available to theme parks and attraction exhibitors worldwide.  The company has also confirmed the Spring 2014 release of its new 4D production “The House of Magic: The 4D Experience.”

“The Lost World 4D” depicts the story of Bob, a stressed executive who heads to a deserted island for a much-needed vacation. It’s a perfect place to relax, with sandy beaches and coconut trees… until his paradise turns out to be home to a lost world of prehistoric dinosaurs. Fierce Raptors, flying Pterosaurs, giant Triceratops, and the mighty T-Rex all roam this hostile world. With assistance from his unlikely rescuer, Professor Lizzie, Bob sets out to escape from these terrifying predators.

005_nWave_TLW_Still

From Tuesday to Friday this week, IAAPA attendees will experience “The Lost World 4D” in nWave’s state-of-the-art 3D theater at booth #4828 in the Orlando Convention Center.

“After our successful launch earlier this year of the ‘The Good The Bad and A Horse 4D’ and ‘Space Chase 3D – The Ride’, we are thrilled to again
partner with Red Star on another quality film, the 33rd title in our popular catalog of 4D attraction films,” said Eric Dillens, Chairman of nWave Studios. “This comic, fast-paced, entertaining and immersive adventure is ideally suited for spectacular special effects. From a wild jeep ride through a dense tropical rainforest to a perilous flight above and inside this forgotten island, this adventure will offer a thrilling experience to audiences.”

010_nWave_TLW_Still

“Although we designed a high-energy entertaining animated film for theme parks, we knew that to fit the mission of institutional venues, we needed to depict the dinosaurs realistically, in a scientifically accurate way, so we concentrated a lot of effort to meet that expectation,” explains the film’s director and Red Star’s creative director Ben Smith. “For extra impact, the use of 3D creates the illusion that the dinosaurs are coming out of the screen, while the addition of 4D effects such as water splashes, vibration, wind blasts, seat drops, lighting, leg tickles and motion cues will totally immerse viewers.”

1450163_587761841285540_3416370_nnWave has also confirmed plans to launch in Spring 2014 the new 4D production “The House of Magic: The 4D Experience” directed by Ben Stassen and Jeremy Degruson. The 12-minute 4D attraction film features Thunder, an abandoned young cat, who stumbles into the strangest house imaginable, owned by an old magician and inhabited by a dazzling array of automatons and gizmos.  The attraction film is based on the characters from the company’s newest feature-length 3D animated film, “The House of Magic 3D” which is set for launch this Christmas in select international territories including Belgium, France, Italy, South Korea, Singapore and Turkey, and later in the UK, Germany and Australia.

IAAPA Attractions Expo is the largest international tradeshow for the amusements and attractions industry, with more than 26,000 attractions professionals attending from around the world.

Tivoli to Open New Hotel with Arp-Hansen Group in 2016

0

image002

Copenhagen, Denmark — A million guests have either stayed at or visited the Tivoli Hotel & Congress Center since it opened in 2010. On the basis of this success, the Arp-Hansen Hotel Group and Tivoli are now ready to continue their strategic partnership and build a new themed business hotel with 288 rooms, which will form an integral part of the existing Tivoli Hotel. The price of the hotel, designed by internationally-renowned Danish architect Kim Utzon, will be in the hundreds of millions of kroner. Wonderful Copenhagen welcomes the initiative.

When the new 12-storey hotel is completed in 2016, it will be a hotel characterised by Tivoli’s spirit and design history. The hotel will offer 25 new meeting and conference rooms, and 288 guest rooms, which, like the existing Tivoli Hotel, will meet the needs of business guests as well as the wishes of the family segment. The total hotel capacity of Tivoli Hotel will thereby be 700 rooms, plus meeting facilities that can accommodate 6,000 guests.

The new hotel will realise the original plan for the overall congress and hotel area of Kalvebod Brygge, which besides the Tivoli Hotel & Congress Center also includes 510 rooms at the budget hotel Wakeup Copenhagen. Following the extension, the overall congress complex will offer a total of 1,210 rooms.

“Arp-Hansen’s strategic collaboration with Tivoli is a perfect match between two experienced players in the Copenhagen tourism trade. Together, we are creating a new framework for tourism and conference guests in Copenhagen,” says Dorte Krak, CEO of the Arp-Hansen Hotel Group. “We are now in the process of fine-tuning the project. In partnership, we will develop and adapt parts of the hotel to ensure that emerging markets like China and Russia will also find us attractive. We believe that this will benefit Copenhagen as a congress city and holiday destination.”

“It makes perfect sense to continue our collaboration with the Arp-Hansen Hotel Group, who is able to create unique hotels in central locations in Copenhagen. We have been working in a focused manner for some years to expand our business areas in the tourism value chain, and a Tivoli Hotel which is more in the family class, but also accommodates the business segment, harmonises well with our strategy to make Tivoli a year-round business,” says Lars Liebst, CEO of Tivoli.

Lars Bernhard Jørgensen, CEO of Wonderful Copenhagen, welcomes the project: “It is important to our international competitiveness that we constantly renew ourselves. Despite the global crisis, we have seen a marked increase in the number of hotel guests visiting Copenhagen in recent years, partly due to the fact that in the same period we have acquired many new hotels and conference facilities, which we have marketed and sold internationally. The unique partnership of Tivoli and Arp-Hansen, and their new hotel project, helps to strengthen the tourism and meeting product in the inner city, and the investment is in line with Wonderful Copenhagen’s growth strategy for the coming years.

Alcorn McBride Providing 5.1 Audio for Oceaneering’s Revolution Trackless Ride Vehicle

IMG_9611

Orlando, FL, USA — Oceaneering Entertainment Systems (OES) is using Alcorn McBride’s RideTraXX synchronized multi-channel audio player with crossfade, VCore controller and ShowTouch iOS control interface to demo its groundbreaking REVOLUTION Tru-Trackless ride system at IAAPA’s Attractions Expo 2013.  IAAPA, the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, will be at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, November 18-22.

OES is known for its cutting-edge development of theme park technologies, including dark ride vehicles, show-action systems and an array of custom solutions.  The company’s latest revolutionary innovation is a ride system like none other.  REVOLUTION is a “Tru-Trackless” system in which ride vehicles are able to glide around a show space in any direction, stop and turn at will, and provide a full motion base experience for the audience.  Vehicles can follow multiple ride paths, have multiple motion profiles, and dispatch from load and unload stations in first available order.

“We chose Alcorn McBride’s RideTraXX as the 5.1 audio playback unit for the REVOLUTION system,” says Matthew Kent, head of creative services at OES.  “At IAAPA Attractions Expo 2013 we’re also using VCore to trigger some show control specifics.  We want to be able to walk up to the vehicle at the show and turn it on or off and access specific elements of the demonstration profile.  REVOLUTION is designed to be put into an attraction on a continuous cycle of show control.  VCore allows us to create a single motion profile for trade show demonstrations purposes with a Touch iOS interface that Alcorn is providing as well.”

During the demo Kent says OES will deploy RideTraXX for “off-board audio so that it can be heard throughout the booth rather than from within the ride, since we won’t have people in the vehicle, however it will be operational and controllable via the touchscreen.”

OES turned to Alcorn McBride for the REVOLUTION demo as a tried-and-true solutions provider.  “Alcorn was already the provider of the audio system we chose for this product for all of our customers,” says Kent.  “RideTraXX is versatile and offers all the inputs and outputs that we require, and it’s very easy to maintain and use. The Compact Flash card interface makes it simple to change show audio media on the fly.”

The REVOLUTION vehicle system may be used not only for passenger ride systems but also for other entertainment applications, such as moveable scenic, animation or show-action platforms.

Whalom Park to be Reborn as FEC

198592_10150213355581753_2879276_n

Leominster, MA. — The New Whalom Park Ownership Program, LLC is now officially the New Whalom Cooperative, LLC. The ownership board of directors was reclassified as the board of supervisors for the NWC, LLC and company officers elected. As they move forward they continue their efforts in recreating an experience that honors the original Whalom Park in building a New Whalom Park as a family entertainment center.

The New Whalom Cooperative, LLC is a consumer cooperative. Consumer cooperatives are enterprises owned by consumers and managed democratically which aim at fulfilling the needs and aspirations of their members. They operate within the market system, independently of the state, as a form of mutual aid, oriented toward service rather than economic gain. Consumers’ cooperatives often take the form of retail outlets owned and operated by their consumers, such as food co-ops, health care, insurance, housing, utilities, personal finance (including credit unions) and now amusement parks.

The New Whalom Park will be a Family Entertainment Center (FEC), a small indoor/outdoor Amusement Park available to families year-round. FECs usually cater to sub-regional markets of larger metropolitan areas and are relatively small, when  compared to a full-scale traditional amusement park, mostly sustained by a local customer base.

With this plan a New Whalom Park can become a reality and the current Whalom Park community can be part of its creation. Member-Owner units (shares) are currently available for purchase.

The original Whalom Park operated from 1893 to 2000.

  • Local church choirs, school choruses and professional performance groups from around Florida raise their voices in joy and fill the Marrakesh Theater with song and Christmas cheer in the Hallelujah Showcase. Performance groups will change nightly and feature traditional, classic and new holiday ballads and favorites.

For those who can’t wait to get their night at Christmas Town started, guests are invited to pull up a chair at Mrs. Claus’ Family Feast for a special evening filled with stories, songs, a delicious buffet of traditional holiday fare, plenty of opportunities for holiday hugs and photos with Mrs. Claus and her favorite elves. Space is limited for this exclusive dining experience and reservations must be made in advance at ChristmasTown.com

“Christmas Town is a unique holiday tradition for Tampa Bay-area families,” says Jim Dean, Busch Gardens Tampa’s park president. “We’ve creating a season-long celebration for family and friends unlike any other event our guests have ever seen – the kind of Christmas fun only Busch Gardens can provide.”

Christmas Town is a separate-ticketed night event.
