Christie 1DLP laser projectors have delivered visuals for an immersive light and sound show staged across the Nanbei Lake – a live performance in China, blending mountain, sea, and lake landscapes.
Titled “Poetic Dreams of Ganchuan”, the show takes place in the heart of the Jiaxing Nanbei Lake Scenic Area in Zhejiang province. This production reimagines ancient Southern Song culture and the “Eight Scenic Spots of Ganchuan” through projection mapping. Spanning a 3.5-kilometer (3-mile) outdoor route, the experience features six key scenes powered by 16 Christie 1DLP laser projectors, including the high-brightness DWU23-HS, DWU1400-GS, and DWU760-iS models.
The project, delivered by Christie’s trusted partner Jianye Display, posed unique challenges – from navigating swamps and rugged terrain to achieving precision projection across natural landscapes. Leveraging their extensive expertise and Christie’s projection technology, Jianye Display managed the entire projection workflow – from preliminary scheme design and projection layout to installation and systems integration – successfully transforming the site into a dynamic cultural canvas.
“The Christie projectors, with brightness ranging from 7,150 to 23,650 lumens, truly stood out in this project,” said Ke Zhou, regional manager of Hubei district, Jianye Display. “Their exceptional brightness and resolution allowed us to create vivid, detailed imagery across challenging natural surfaces. The color accuracy and contrast remained consistently impressive throughout every scene.”
Five Christie DWU1400-GS projectors delivered visuals for the “White Egrets in Spring Bloom” live performance, while another four DWU1400-GS units brought to life the scenes of “Whispers of Dreams in Mist and Rain” and “Luminous New Moon” – the latter featuring imagery projected onto a floating globe that resembles a full moon.
Meanwhile, six Christie DWU23-HS projectors powered two visually rich experiences: “Illuminated Stone Bridge,” where images of red lotus and colorful butterflies danced across the bridge, and “Danqing Illumination: Painting the Stone in Light,” which displayed painterly visuals. A DWU760-iS projector added energy to the “Bluestone in Motion” performance.
To ensure reliable performance, all projection equipment was weatherproofed and installed using ceiling mounts and reinforced brackets for wind and seismic stability. Cables were either buried or ceiling-mounted to prevent short circuits, and adequate ventilation was provided. Emergency solutions such as detachable curtains and protective covers were deployed for extreme weather scenarios.
“I’m thrilled with the strong market response to the Christie projectors,” Zhou added. “Their performance exceeded expectations. ‘Poetic Dreams of Ganchuan’ not only boosted the economic and cultural vitality of Nanbei Lake, but also serves as a benchmark showpiece for night-tour tourism projects across China.”
April Qin, senior sales director for China, Christie, commented, “We are proud that our projection solutions played a key role in this landmark production. The robust performance, reliability, and adaptability of our 1DLP laser projectors made them an ideal choice for such a technically demanding, creative installation. This project is a prime example of how technology and culture can blend seamlessly to redefine the tourism experience.”
