Cosm reveals Digistar 2025 at Int’l Planetarium Society Conference

Cosm unveiled the next rendition of Digistar, the immersive planetarium software. The latest version, Digistar 2025, is set to release at the end of this year, Cosm announced at the world’s largest in-person gathering of planetarium professionals, the International Planetarium Society (IPS) 2024 Conference in Berlin, Germany – the birthplace of planetariums 100 years ago.

Equipped with production tools, system controls, an ecosystem of immersive content, and scientific data visualizations, Digistar empowers planetariums to transcend traditional boundaries and explore new horizons in science, art, entertainment, and more.

Working in collaboration with the worldwide Digistar community to expand what is possible in planetariums, Cosm previewed a selection of Digistar 2025’s new features and highlighted significant opportunities the latest version will unlock. Emphasizing customer success, the announcement marks Digistar’s transition to a yearly release cycle to ensure users always have the latest tools at their fingertips.

To complement Digistar’s intuitive features and production tools with immersive content, Cosm recently introduced its Premium Media Program, a flexible and affordable approach for planetariums running Digistar to access an expanding collection of 45+ immersive films, including Cosm Studios original programming exclusive to participants. Allowing for greater flexibility for participants to meet their missions and grow their audience through fresh and dynamic programming, the Program grants participants the option to select four or more films from the Premium Media Library, along with a Cosm Studios original piece, with the ability to switch them for different shows each year.

“Since Digistar’s inception in 1981 as the world’s first digital 3D planetarium, our world-class engineering team has put forth consistent development and innovation, which has led to Digistar earning its place as the immersive instrument of choice for more than 700 planetariums around the world,” said Kirk Johnson, Chief Operations Officer at Cosm. “With decades of experience in powering prestigious planetariums and science centers across the globe, Cosm is proud to usher in a bright new era of planetariums through both Digistar 2025 and our LED CX System solution, powering the next generation of immersive experience in science, education, and beyond.”

Today, Digistar is a key component of Cosm’s CX System, the company’s end-to-end Shared Reality solution. As Cosm’s premium LED dome solution, CX System boasts LED dome display technology, experiential production capabilities, and an ever-growing ecosystem of immersive content. CX System blends the physical and virtual worlds, powering several science and education experiences opening around the world. In addition, CX System powers Cosm’s owned and operated immersive Shared Reality venues in both Los Angeles’ Hollywood Park, which opened to the public this month, Dallas’ Grandscape, in The Colony, Texas, as well as in Atlanta’s Centennial Yards, with additional venues to be announced in key markets.
