Forrec’s Steven Rhys to Keynote at "Creators of Destinations" Symposium at NHTV Breda University

Toronto, Ontario, Canada (April 17th 2012) — The Board of Governors of NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences is very proud to host the symposium “The Creators of Destinations” on: Thursday 31 May 2012 from 13:30 – 17:00 hrs.

Leisure, shopping and hospitality facilities are increasingly being merged into integrated concepts and developed as tourism, business and sports ‘Destinations’.

Cities such as Dubai, Singapore and Macau are transformed into ‘Global Destinations’ by governmental and financial institutions. Theme parks like Disney and Universal develop business concepts that combine leisure, shopping, sports and business facilities, restaurants and hotels. Cruise ships are designed as massive floating resorts complete with shopping malls, theatres, restaurants and leisure amenities for thousands of guests. Airports today are more than just runways and terminals, offering an increasing variety of services including shopping malls, hotels, as well as business and leisure facilities.

What are the critical success factors for a Destination and the integrated business model of shopping, hospitality and leisure facilities?

Keynote speaker of the symposium will be Steven Rhys, Executive Vice President, Forrec Ltd. from Toronto, Canada. There will also be speeches by Bart Dohmen, Managing Director Europe of BRC Imagination Arts and Hans Mommaas, Professor Leisure studies, Center for Leisure and Tourism Research.

The symposium will take place on 31 May from 13:30 to 17:00 hrs, followed by a networking reception until 18:30 hrs. Please mark the date in your diary. Official invitations will be sent out in a couple of weeks, containing more detailed information on speakers, location, programme, registration procedure, and so on.
