Applications open for inaugural Expo Innovation Award

Applications are now open for the inaugural edition of the Expo Innovation Award, jointly launched by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and the Global Industrial and Social Progress Research Institute (GISPRI) on the occasion of Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai. The award will recognize two outstanding innovations – one in Technological Innovation and one in Social Innovation – each receiving a prize of 50,000 euros to support their continued development.

The Expo Innovation Award celebrates innovation showcased at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai in two key areas:

Technological Innovation: The Expo Innovation Award honors cutting-edge technologies, innovative systems, and exhibition events that align with the Expo’s theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” and its subthemes: “Saving Lives,” “Empowering Lives,” and “Connecting Lives”.

Social Innovation: The Expo Innovation Award highlights novel, effective, and sustainable solutions to social challenges. Eligible initiatives should demonstrate a lasting impact on society, particularly by raising awareness or engaging communities both during and beyond the Expo.

Only innovations that are presented or demonstrated at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai are eligible. Applicants may submit their application (in English only) by June 23, 2025. Eligible applicants include individuals, private companies, NGOs, and other non-governmental entities connected to the Expo. Governmental entities are not eligible.

The two winners – one from each category – will be honored during an award ceremony taking place on September 7, 2025, at Aichi Arena (IG Arena) in Nagoya City, marking the 20th anniversary of Expo 2005 Aichi.
