LCI Productions brings projection mapped spectacle to East Bournemouth shopping center

East Bournemouth has become home to a permanently installed outdoor 3D projection mapped show. Located opposite the Sovereign Shopping Centre, the new show spectacular will play every day until 8 p.m. and will update throughout the year to keep guests returning to see the next installments.

The initiative has been launched by Bournemouth Coastal BID, in partnership with Bournemouth Towns Fund as part of its mission to increase the number of people visiting Bournemouth off-season, persuade them to stay longer and encourage visitors and locals to explore more of the coastal strip.

The 18 meter x 11 meter (59 feet x 36 feet) show has been designed and installed by LCI Productions. A Digital Projection M-Vision 23000-WU DPL projector has been installed in an upstairs space opposite to ensure it doesn’t get knocked out of alignment and to keep it safe from changeable weather conditions.

A Show Control Computer and BrightSign Media Player ensure the content runs smoothly every evening, with remote dial in capability for the LCI team. Eight outdoor speakers surround the projection mapped canvas to create a full multisensory experience for guests.

Fiona McArthur, Bournemouth Coastal BID Manager, says: “We have future-proofed this experience so that the content and show can regularly be updated. We have different shows planned throughout the year and also have the capability of showing live sport, so we can project it onto the side of the building. This has allowed us to create a multifunctional space and invite people throughout the year to come along and have a memorable experience.”

LCI has also created the show content which has launched with a ‘Love Boscombe’ theme for Valentine’s Day. The 3D content floats above the surface to include hearts moving across the screen, pulsating, spinning and circling around the building, images that represent the Boscombe sea front and artwork from local residents that comes to life.

Rob Paul, LCI Projections, explains: “We have created a guest experience that is akin with what you would expect to experience at a theme park with the combination of 3D visuals and surround audio immersing the audience into the scene. This is a fantastic initiative to encourage people to visit their local high street and the evolving show experience will keep them returning time and time again.”
