San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance launches new travel venture

San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance has a new way for allies to connect with wildlife and explore exotic locations around the world, while helping save species and support local communities at the same time. San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance Adventures — a new sustainable travel business — provides opportunities to visit some of the most awe-inspiring places on the planet, guided by top conservation scientists, wildlife experts and photographers. Each adventure supports the nonprofit organization’s critical conservation work to save species — and every trip is 100% carbon neutral, with the Alliance’s travel partner funding carbon reduction projects to offset emissions equal to the amount released during each trip — all in an effort to create a world where all life thrives.

“We are so excited to provide our wildlife allies with these amazing opportunities to experience some of the most astounding locations on Earth and share our passion for wildlife,” said Shawn Dixon, chief operating officer for San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance. “Apart from creating lifelong memories, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance Adventures will inspire travelers with an inside look at our work to save wildlife not only in the field, but also at the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park.”

With San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance Adventures, travelers can choose from domestic treks that offer rare opportunities to observe wildlife to faraway exotic excursions, including a safari in Botswana, a chance to view jaguars in Brazil’s Pantanal and an Amazon River expedition.

Other travel options include a Classic Polar Bear Adventure, where travelers will journey to Canada’s Churchill, Manitoba, and see the world’s greatest concentration of polar bears; a trip to explore the coastal rainforest of Costa Rica; a Yellowstone Wolf Quest Photo Adventure with a wildlife photographer, an award-winning filmmaker and wolf biologists; and a Monarch Butterfly Migration Adventure in the remote fir forests of Mexico’s Central Highlands, where millions of monarchs arrive each winter.

Additional adventures include the Patagonia Wilderness and Wildlife Explorer trip, where travelers can track pumas and guanacos, visit a king penguin colony, and cruise to the face of the Perito Moreno Glacier; the Classic Galápagos Experience, where participants can snorkel with sea lions, swim with turtles, sunbathe with iguanas and overnight in wild tortoise terrain; and the Madagascar Wildlife Adventure, where adventurers can see diademed sifakas, indris, lemurs, fossas, tenrecs and unusual plants found nowhere but on this remarkable island.

San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance Adventures offers a personal experience designed for small groups with savvy travel guides. Explorers will be able to learn from experts from a wide range of professions, such as wildlife care, population sustainability, land management, wildlife health, conservation science, photography and more. The guides will share their insight and provide an exclusive look at San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s efforts to save wildlife around the world.

Each adventure includes unique, authentic accommodations. All meals from the first day through the final day are included, as are most gratuities, activity and entrance fees, taxes, permits and service fees. For trips that require specialty gear, travelers will be provided with equipment as needed.
