Themed Entertainment Association will announce recipients of 17th Annual Thea Awards, Tues Nov 16 at IAAPA Attractions Expo

Orlando – On Tues Nov 16, The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) – an international nonprofit for the makers of compelling places and experiences – will announce the recipients named for TEA’s 17th Annual Thea Awards. The announcement will be made live at 2:00 pm at TEA’s exhibit booth (#1268) during the IAAPA Attractions Expo. TEA’s Thea Awards recognize and celebrate excellence in the global visitor attractions industry (aka Experience Industry).

Copies of the recipient list will be available at the TEA booth at the time of the announcement.

At least 12 or more projects and people are named every year for the coveted Thea Awards, considered to be the highest honor of the Experience Industry. Categories include Awards for Outstanding Achievement, the Thea Classic and Lifetime Achievement. Eligible project types include (but are not limited to) theme parks and attractions, museums and exhibitions, visitor centers, casinos, multimedia spectaculars, world expo pavilions, 4D theaters and innovative technologies – in any part of the world.

The recipients of the 17th Annual Thea Awards announced on Nov 16 will collect their trophies several months later at the annual Thea Awards Gala, to be held March 12, 2011 at the Globe Theatre, Universal Studios Hollywood. The Gala is an elegant, black-tie dinner event and is open to the public. Tickets to the 17th Annual Thea Awards Gala may be purchased online at the Box Office on the TEA website.

The first Thea Award, in 1994, was a single award for Lifetime Achievement, given to the late Harrison “Buzz” Price, a Disney legend and pioneer in attractions feasibility analysis, who passed away on August 15 at the age of 89.

Thea Awards process

TEA’s prestigious Thea Awards were created to focus international attention on innovation within the Themed Entertainment and Experience Design Industry, and to recognize and honor excellence all up and down the chain of creative production. The project owner is presented with the primary award trophy at the Thea Awards Gala. As part of the awards process the project owner provides, and TEA publishes, a comprehensive credits list acknowledging the designers, producers, technicians, consultants and suppliers in recognition of their roles. TEA makes additional trophies available to those on the list. In this way the Thea Awards honor the vision and dedication of the project owner while bestowing and recording credits for those who realize the project.

Nominations for the next cycle of Thea Awards are now open, through early July 2011. Information about submitting a nomination will be available at the TEA website in early 2011.
